Imam Ahmad al-Maqarri al-Tilimsan
Notes from Imam Ahmad al-Maqarri al-Tilimsani’s voluminous book on the Radiant Sandal of the Prophet, May Allah shower peace & blessings on Him
In Arabic the Prophet’s sandal is known as ‘Na’l al-Nabiiy.’
The Prophet’s sandal is an amulet full of bliss, peace and serenity. At time of stress and grief one should place it on their heart and eyes for its luminous effects.
It is a cure for the ill, pathway to relief for those in anguish, healing for the pregnant woman at time of birth, strong against the evil eye, and a symbol of security and protection for ships at sea, property from loss, house from burning, caravans from hostile attacks. People would use the Sandal image for the aforementioned reasons and also for a means of achieving immense blessings in the stations of this world and the hereafter.
From those who drew an image of the blessed Sandal, approved its miraculous blessings and served it from the Hadith Masters were Ibn Asakir & his student Badr Fariqi, Hafiz Zayn al-Din Iraqi & his son, Imam Sakhawi and Imam Suyuti from the east. It is well known that the following scholars of Morocco were foremost in drawing the image (Ar. Mithal/Naqsh) since they did not have the real thing, Ibn Marzuwq, Abu Bakr Ibn al-Arabi, Hafiz Abu al-Rabee’, Hafiz Abu Abdullah bin al-Ibar, Ibn Rashedd al-Fahri, Ibn Jabir Aashi, Ibn al-Bara al-Tuwsi, Abu Is’haq al-Undlusi. Ibn Asakir took it from the Moroccan Ibn al-Haaj and all hadith scholars thereafter took it from him.
The tribe of Ibn al-Hadeed preserved the Sandals and then they were kept in Jami’ah Ashrafiyyah, Damascus. Moroccan travellers such as Ibn al-Rasheed came to Damascus and drew images to take back for the people.
May Allah enlighten their graves with His light and reward them for their efforts.
The attention given to the noble sandals is not an innovated matter.
Imam Yusuf al-Nabhani
Verily I serve the image of the Sandal of Mustafa . That I shall live under its shadow in both worlds.
[Sa’d] Ibn Masud was in the service of His Sandal. And I am fortunate by serving its image.
I dust the Sandal image with the whiteness of my beard. Since the Prophet fastened the band that passed between His toes.
It is not for the image that my heart is longing. Yet it yearns for the one who wore this Sandal.
We are lowered by awe to honour this Sandal. And whenever we lower before it we are raised.
So place it on the highest shelf! For indeed in reality it is a crown and only outwardly a Sandal.
Nur ad-Din Abd ar-Rahman Jami (1414-1492) – The Great Naqshbandi Sufi Scholar and Poet
Tanam Farsooda jaa para
Ze Hijra Ya Rasul Allah
Dillam Paz Murda Aawara
Ze Isyaa. Ya Rasul Allah
My body is dissolving in your separation
And my soul is breaking into pieces. Ya Rasul Allah!
Due to my sins, My heart is weak and becoming enticed. Ya Rasul Allah!
Choon Soo’e Mun Guzar Aari
Manne Miskeen Zanaa Daari
Fida-E-Naqsh-E-Nalainat
Kunam Ja. Ya Rasul Allah!
When you pass by me
Then even in my immense poverty, ecstatically,
I must sacrifice my soul on your blessed sandal. Ya Rasul Allah!
Ze Jaame Hubb To Mustam
Ba Zanjeere To Dil Bustam
Nu’mi Goyam Ke Mun Bustum
Sukun Daa. Ya Rasul Allah
I am drowned in the taste of your love
And the chain of your love binds my heart.
Yet I don’t say that I know this language (of love). Ya Rasul Allah!
Ze Kharda Khaish Hairaanam
Siyaa Shud Roze Isyaanam
Pashemaanam, Pashemaanam,
Pashemaanam. Ya Rasul Allah!
I am worried due to my misdeeds;
And I feel that my sins have blackened my heart. Ya Rasul Allah!
I am in distress! I am in distress! I am in distress! Ya Rasul Allah!
Choon Baazoo’e Shafaa’at Raa
Khushaa’I Bar Gunaagara
Makun Mahruume Jaami Raa
Daraa Aan. Ya Rasul Allah
Ya Rasul Allah! When you spread your hands to intercede for the sinners,
Then do not deprive Jaami of your exalted intercession.

When the British still ruled India there lived, in Delhi, a well-known Hindu poet by the name of Dillu Ram Kausari. Now, this poet, though a Hindu, wrote encomiums and poems [na’at] in praise of the Prophet MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam(upon him be
blessings and peace.) He became famous for writing such poetry and his poems became well known to such an extent that it scandalised his fellow Hindus who accosted him and said, “Dillu Ram, what is the matter with you? You have disgraced the name of Hindus! You are a Hindu and yet you sing praises of and write poetry praising the ProphetSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallamof the Muslims?”
“Do not stop me”, answered Dillu Ram, “for I am forced to write such poetry.”
“Who or what is forcing you?” his fellow Hindus asked.
“I am forced by my love,” he cried. “I have fallen in love with the ProphetSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam!”
“How can you, being a Hindu, fall in love with the Muslims’ ProphetSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam?” they asked, perplexed.
To this Dillu Ram replied, “’Love is not forced it just happens’”.
“How much do you love the ProphetSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallamthen?” they asked him, still astonished that one of their own could love the ProphetSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam. To this Dillu Ram wept like a lover departed from his beloved and recited a poem of his. He said:
Kuch ‘ishq e MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallammein nahin shart e Musulman!
Hai Kausari Hindu bhii talabgaar e MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam!
Allah re! kyaa raunaq e bazaar e MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam
Ke Ma’bood e Jahan bhi hai kharidaar e MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam!
Being a Muslim is not a condition for loving MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam!
Kausari, the Hindu, is also a seeker of MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam!
By Allah! How delightful is the bazaar of MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam
For the Lord of the Worlds is also a buyer of MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam!
They left him in disgust. The poetry of Dillu Ram became more widespread and one quatrain, in particular, shocked the entire community in India, both Muslims and Hindus. In this quatrain he imagined himself on the Day of Judgement and wrote these words, which were published (as were many of his other poems in various Urdu monthlies) in a Urdu magazine called “Maulvi” which was printed in Delhi.
This was the controversial quatrain:
Rahmatulilalamin kay Hashar mein maana’ khulay
Khalq saari Shaafa e Roz e Jaza kay saath hai
Laykay Dillu Raam ko jannat mein jab Hazrat gaye
Ma’loom huwa kay Hindu bhi Mahboob e Khuda kay saath hai!
The meaning of “Mercy unto the Worlds” became apparent on Judgement Day:
The whole creation is with the Intercessor of The Day of Acquittal
When the ProphetSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallamtook Dillu Ram with him into Paradise
It was known that this Hindu too is with the Beloved of God!
This quatrain scandalised both Hindus and Muslims! It annoyed the the Hindus who objected to his continued praise of the ProphetSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallamand it scandalised the Muslims who were angered by the sheer audacity of this Hindu to speak like that about the Day of Judgment! How can a Hindu go to heaven? they asked.
Undeterred by this criticism, Dillu Ram continued most of his life to sing the praises of the ProphetSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallamalthough he never became a Muslim and remained a Hindu. It is also said that Dillu Ram, delirious with his love, would sometimes stand in the middle of the bazaar in Delhi, put chains around his neck and feet and shout at the top of his voice to all passers-by, “MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam! MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam! MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam! Yes! MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallamis the Beloved of God! MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallamis the first and only Beloved of God! If God loves you, He loves you because of His BelovedSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam!” Some people even stoned him and he would often come home covered in blood but he was totally lost in his love of the ProphetSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam(peace and blessings be upon him!)
As he got older, his fame as a poet (and infamy) spread and when he became seriously ill it was reported in the various literary magazines throughout India including in “Maulvi”. It was reported in this magazine that when he was on his deathbed, seriously weakened and surrounded by well-wishers, friends, family, and admirers of his poetry including many other poets, he was so weak he couldn’t leave his bed. Strangely, he continued to stare at the door and after a while his face brightened and he got up and stood on his feet and hands-folded, asked all those gathered there to also stand up. Astonished his intimates asked him, “The one whom I have spent my whole life praising has arrived! The blessed Father of Fatima salamun alayha MuhammadSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallamis here, visiting me! And I have not even accepted his religion! How generous my belovedSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallamis!” Weeping, he began to converse with the spirit of the ProphetSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallamwho said to him, “Dillu Ram! Your time is almost upon you. Azraelalayhis ‘salamis almost here! I do not want anyone who has praised me like you have to go to the hellfire! I wish to take you into Paradise with me!” Weeping Dillu Ram recited the Kalimah (Muslim Credo) and then said to the ProphetSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallam, “Master! You have taught me the Kalimah now also give me a Muslim name of your choice! I can feel The Angel of Death is almost upon me!” The ProphetSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallamgave him the name Kausar Ali Kausari. After that the fortunate former Hindu poet passed away. Verily we are from God and unto Him is our return!
His name has become famous amongst traditional Sunni Barelvi Muslims of the Subcontinent as a lover of the ProphetSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallamwho attained a blessing only given to God’s chosen few—the vision of the BelovedSalla Allahu ta’ala ‘alayhi wa Sallamwhilst in a state of waking!
May God give us all the love of Dillu Ram Kausari! Amen.

Malice against Sufis is Malice against Ahlul Bayt and a way to hell fire.

Ummah needs Zikr

Posted: March 31, 2014 by kashmirsufis in Miscellaneous

“Allah warns people [in the Qur’an]: And be ye not like those who forgot Allah; and He made them forget their own souls! Such are the rebellious transgressors! [Surat Al Hashr 59:19] They forgot about Allah and Allah made them forget about themselves, as a consequence. Look at the aya. How strong! You forget about the dhikr of Allah and Allah will make you forget about yourself. What does that mean? You are lost! And therefore, look at the Ummah. The situation of the Ummah requires lots of dhikr today. The individual situation of the Muslims requires lots of dhikr today. And that’s why you see the individuals are lost and the Ummah as a whole now is lost. Not Islam! Islam is preserved by Allah. But the Muslims have to work up to the standards of Islam. And the reason the tawfiq is limited is because the dhikr isn’t there. They forgot about Allah so Allah make them forget about themselves.
If you forget about the dhikr of Allah, then you are going to have a serious problem in iman and tawheed. Al Imam Ibn Ataa’illah Al Iskandari said “If you do not occupy yourself with the Haq, yourself will occupy you the Batil.” Instead of occupying yourself with the dhikr of Al-Khaliq (The Creator), it wants you to occupy yourself with the dhikr of the khalq (creation).”
